I love this fic so much, I'm in awe of your skill. I didn't give you a lot of choices of fics to work with, since I barely qualified, only squeaking past with a few hastily written drabbles, so I did feel rather sorry for you, dear remixer. But somehow you've written a fantastic fic which stands perfectly on its own, comments on canon, and comments on my original fic as well. It's like the ideal manifestation of a remix redux fic!
There's so much to love I feel completely incoherent, but maybe I should just start listing stuff:
I love Clark's voice, it's very much in character. He's young, sweet and idealistic, and eager to show off his new knowledge and live up to Lex.
I love how you've managed to weave what could have been an info-dump about pointillism into the emotional plot. It's absolutely fascinating, paced and phrased to it reflects on how Clark sees Lex, and also teaching me something really nifty about art. I googled the painting you mention, and remember seeing it in books, but I never knew about the technique or philosophy of Georges Seurat, very cool!
I love the relationship between Clark and Martha. You really show how much they love each other, and how they have fun stuff they do together which isn't about cows and platitudes.
And of course, I love the relationship between Clark and Lex. Your Clark is perhaps a bit more eloquent and perceptive than I remember season one Clark, but that's the wonderful thing about getting inside his head like this. I do believe that, yes, this is exactly how Clark feels. He likes and admires Lex, and tries to see the good in him, judge him for his overall behavior and character, and not let a few disturbing conversations skew his image of him.
It's really neat how you hint at their complex relationship by referring to both the odd and disturbing rants Lex has a tendency to go on, the way Lex opens the world to Clark, and the generosity and intimacy of Lex letting Clark browse his library and helping him with his school assignments. I like how even though you tagged it Clark/Lex, your fic is very gen. It could be pure friendship with a bit of hero-worship from Clark, or it could be a little crush.
