Well as far as the post goes, I only came looking out of insecurity. I mean, some people will say lovely things to your face then turn around on their LJ and go all meh it wasn't what I'd hoped for. I was hoping for proof that you really did like it. :-) I didn't realize this was your first remix so I'm glad it wound up good for you! I do this comm and remixthedrabble and one or two others so I'm rather used to it now. (Though I am continually bewildered at the odd fic people choose of mine to remix. LOL)
I liked your mix of bleak and funny in the original but I knew I couldn't pull it off and have it work like you did. So I dialed down the bleak and the humor, but kept enough to make it the same story (at least I thought) and tried to put a fresh enough spin on it that it would feel more like mine. Mostly I knew the time shifting was too much for me. My Criminal Minds big bang (which I finished this month back at ficfinishing yay!) is majorly time shifted (over 40 scenes - only like two at most at a time in chronological order) and it's been making my head explode so the first thing I did with yours was make it fully chronological and cut out the actual alien encounter in favor of just a mention and cut the rooftop epilogue to simplify it. It made it so much more manageable and it helped me focus on the Janto parts I really wanted to spend time with. I adore them as a 'couple' /snicker/ and I wanted to honor the whole reason you wrote it for the fest and deal with the homophobia with proper respect so it came through with the right level of gravitas.
I'm afraid I don't write TW anywhere near often enough, but I do have a long Janto H/C fic done that I need to beta and get out. Now that I've finally seen all of CoE /restrains self from rantings and cursing a certain arse person/ so I think I'd like to get back into writing the fandom. I've got a claim for Janto and I need to fill up my table so it's time to get back on the TW horse and get ficcing again.
Oh, before I forget, I had to laugh out loud when I posted for a beta in the lounge and you were the only person to respond. /cracks up/ I had an excuse all planned for not getting back to you if you posted again - posting using the sockpuppet means no emailed comments! - but thankfully you let it go. OMG you should have seen me though! LOL I kept thinking, what are the odds that out of all the TW people I should get you offering, and so fast at that! So thank you for offering and now you know why I couldn't take you up on it. /grins/
