this is so so ... *i have no word* bittersweet maybe? the silent helplessness undertone is so heart-breaking. moreover so, after knowing what their future hold. i'm so so glad that i read this one first before going to the original. i probably wouldn't read it if i happen to read the original first. which is not to say that the original is bad, just real depressing. and this sliver of happiness is just .... *flail*
