Rose isn't all that high on my list of Best Companions either, but oddly enough I think I've grown a good deal more fond of her by writing her in this.
Lovely mirroring of how both Jake and Rose are doing the same thing, and how Mickey seems to be the only person who's actually with the people he's with.
Oh yeah, that was definitely deliberate. I planned that before I ever set pen to paper fingers to keyboard. (Actually, if you think it's well-constructed, that's probably because I really did plan almost everything out before I started writing. Well, that and my beta is Made Of Awesome.)
