At first I was a bit disappointed because this story has been remixed before. But when I saw that you'd expanded my dark little vignette into a two-part action-adventure full-blown AU with Jean Grey as a private eye in a noir flick, I was thrilled. This was an awesome re-imagining of the universe I created, because of course, these guys are superheroes... even in a world where they were never brought together to be heroes in the first place, they're not going to take this lying down. I love how Xavier brings the team together anyway, only it's to fight him, not to be his students; and I liked how he was not a cartoon villain, but was still weirdly sympathetic in his own twisted way, his references to why Jean's power validates his work, the line about "I loved him and I killed him"...
Bobby as a metaphoric as well as literal Iceman is brilliant, given the circumstances of his original power manifestation and recruitment to the X-Men. And Scott as a cop was great. But especially I loved Jean the private eye. She was awesome, and the flickers of Phoenix she displayed were fascinating.
