Oh, wow. This is gorgeous. I love your description of Iowa, the coming storm, Jim wanting to handle the roofing for his mother (and what a fabulous character you've made her!), the transmissions from Pike, and then the ending which takes medie's story and turns it around -- really, just fabulous.
