I had somehow missed the original, so I went back and read that first, then oh oh oh what you did with it. The original was lovely but brief, giving us only glimpses of the past. The way you expanded that to encompass magic and flight and young love and connection, the way you painted Nimueh into a completely different character from the one we ended up with in the series. (I wish they'd gone with your vision.) But I think the two things I loved the most were the way you kept Hunith's voice so true to that original sound, the mild-wise-wry quality of her words, and that you kept but recast the line there could never have been anyone else, which stood out like a beacon to me in the original.
If I were not already in love with your writing, this would utterly convince me. As it is, I think I'll keep this story close and take it out every so often to listen again, like a music box. Because it is that beautiful.
