It took me about three weeks to hit on a functional outline -- a way to get from Lily's wedding to Teddy's departure for Hogwarts -- mostly because I couldn't think of a good reason for Petunia to be at King's Cross at all. After a while I started toying with the idea that she was organizing Dudley's wedding and wanted to talk to Harry about it (but didn't have his address), but I still didn't have any good connecting scenes. Finally it occurred to me that if I was starting and ending with weddings, maybe I ought to continue with that theme.
At that point, the old movie title "Four Weddings and a Funeral" jumped into my head and I realized what my five scenes needed to be. (Then, of course, I spent the last week of writing trying desperately to think of a different title!)
