Yeah, that's why I picked the story in particular. There just seemed to be so much potential for other things going on under the surface.

Mickey's chat with his Gran was me being a bit meta about Rose and the whole situation. I really do believe what she said about Rose, that she's a very nice girl but she's probably not quite right in the head. (But then, I'm not entirely right myself, though better than I used to be.)
Jake and Rose are meant to parallel each other, sort of. They're both pretending, just Jake can do it better and so it's not as obvious that he's doing it until he confesses. (Though I tried to lay clues, like him getting uncomfortable when Mickey says things that remind him he's not Ricky, like the whole 'bloody parallel worlds' thing.) So when Jake admits what he's doing that's the cue for Rose to start seeing Mickey as who he is too.
